Citizen Training

Calvert County Department of Public Safety Division of Emergency Management is hosting a variety of monthly classes in an effort to better prepare citizens of all ages to manage emergencies. All classes will be held at the Harriet E. Brown Community Center from 7 to 9 pm (except CPR which will run from 6 to 9 pm).

Although training is free, we do require that you register for the class at 410-535-1600, ext. 2638 or email Emergency Management. When emailing, please provide your name, contact information, and the number of people who are attending.

Until Help Arrives

You Are the Help Until Help Arrives

FEMA's You Are the Help Until Help Arrives (Until Help Arrives) provides tools to educate and empower the public to act in an emergency situation before professional help arrives by taking five Until Help Arrives key actions:

  • Call 9-1-1
  • Protect the injured from harm
  • Stop bleeding
  • Position the injured so they can breathe
  • Provide comfort

CPR Training

American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR AED is a video-based, instructor-led course that teaches adult and child CPR and AED use, infant CPR, and how to relieve choking in adults, children, and infants.

This course teaches skills with the AHA's research-proven practice-while-watching technique, which allows instructors to observe the students, provide feedback, and guide the students' learning of skills. This course is for anyone with limited or no medical training who needs a course completion card in CPR and AED use to meet job, regulatory, or other requirements.

ALICE Training

ALICE Training

The Calvert County Sheriff's Office will providing ALICE training to all citizens. ALICE, which stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate, was the first training program in the country that provided staff and students with an option-based response to an active shooter gaining entry to a school, business, or organization.
