Location/Zoning
Most businesses are commercially zoned, while many residences that you may wish to convert to commercial may not be. Either way, new businesses need to be consistent with the area Master Plan and Zoning Ordinance.
| Some Important Questions to Ask: |

Are you in a municipality? If so, check with the town hall to see if you are allowed to operate at the site. |

Are there private covenants? If you are in a commercial or industrial park, check your deed or the record plat to see if there are any covenants which prohibit your business. |

What about zoning? Determine the zoning of the property and ask Zoning Staff to assist you in determining if your proposal is a permitted use at that location and if a change in intensity of the use requires special approvals. |

Do you need a sign change? If so, there are size, design and location requirements. A separate sign permit application is required. |
