  1. Life on the Edge Teen Overnight

    October 20, 7:00 AM - October 21, 3:00 PM @ Assateague Island National Seashore

    Ages 12-16 years old Friday, October 20, 7:00 a.m. through Saturday, October 21, 3:00 p.m. Mandatory pre-trip meeting on Thursday, October 5 at 6:30 pm at Battle Creek Cypress Swamp. Assateague Island is poised between the land and the sea - recreated each day by ocean, wind, and waves. Teens will kayak the coastal bay, camp in the sand dunes, cook dinner over a fire, and explore the beach at night. Each child must be registered separately. Location: Meets at Battle Creek Cypress Swamp then we'll travel by van to Assateague Island Additional details Provide your own lunch Friday. Dinner Friday, snacks, breakfast and lunch Saturday provided. Tents provided – must have own sleeping bag. Packing list can be found here in October and will be emailed to participants in the fall.     2 years and older (children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult) Battle Creek Cypress Swamp is a beautiful park home to lots of unique plants and animals. Unfortunately the area along Grays and Sixes roads are not as pretty due to the litter from passing motorists. Help us beautify the park by collecting the litter and separating it for recycling. Afterwards we will take you on a tour through the nature center and get an up close view at some of our exhibit animals.

    Appointed by the Board of County Commissioners, the Planning Commission serves as a citizen review board on county planning decisions. The Planning Commission is both an advisory and decision-making body. Planning Commission activities include: •Reviews and makes recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners on the Comprehensive Plan, town center master plans and other policy plans necessary to guide county development. •Makes recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners regarding zoning of land, amendments to the ordinances, the development of public structures and services, land acquisitions and other development and growth related issues. •Reviews and approves the recommendations for subdivision of land for residential and commercial use and proposed site plans for the future development of individual sites. These recommendations and actions are performed in coordination with the staff of Community Planning & Building.

    The Calvert County Board of County Commissioners will hold a Public Hearing to consider and receive comments on a budget adjustment in the Solid Waste Fund fiscal year 2018 Capital Improvement Plan in the amount of $158,790 to increase the Mount Hope Convenience Center project budget to cover costs related for the construction. The proposed source of funding for this budget adjustment is accumulated solid waste fund balance.
