Celebrate Local Agriculture with the 2017 Calvert County Farm Festival

Get to know Calvert County’s rural community by spending a day on five working farms during the 20th annual Calvert County Farm Festival Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 21 and 22, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

Purchase pumpkins and other fall produce, take a hay ride, try a corn maze, sample wines and much more. Visitors can also enter a raffle to win a prize basket at each of the participating festival locations.

The event, held rain or shine, promises to be a great family outing at five local farms:

Fridays Creek Winery
3485 Chaneyville Road, Owings

Fridays Creek is home to picturesque vineyards and a restored barn housing wine production facilities, a tasting room and an art gallery. Activities include wine sales and tasting, vineyard and winery tours and local artwork. There is a fee for wine tasting.

Horsmon Farm

Peruse fall decorative products and local, all-natural meats. Enjoy hay rides, farm animals, a pumpkin patch and maze. Admission is $8.

Mulberry Hill Farm

A 120-acre fifth-generation family farm, Mulberry Hill offers farm-fresh products and fun fall activities. Visit the farm to see the first official barn quilt square, part of the new Calvert Barn Quilt Trail. Mulberry Hill Farm is a cooperative vineyard with the Port of Leonardtown Winery. Activities include live music (Saturday only, 1-5 p.m.), vineyard tours, pumpkins, mums and wine tastings (1-5 p.m.). There is a fee for wine tasting.

Perigeaux Vineyards and Winery

This 30-acre farm includes eight acres of grapes along with peaches and cherries. Visitors enjoy the winery, tasting room and a barn with agricultural equipment. Farm Festival activities include wine tastings, live music, corn hole, vineyard and winery tours and arts, crafts and food vendors. There is a fee for wine tasting.

Spider Hall Farm

Visit this 362-acre working farm offering a variety of agri-tourism and agri-education attractions. Activities include a corn maze, hay ride, petting zoo, pumpkin patch, moon bounce, vendor market and pony rides. Admission fee of $8 for ages 4-15; $5 for ages 16 and up; 3 and under are free; additional $5 fee for pony rides (pony rides are cash only) and pumpkins sold separately by the pound.

The annual Calvert County Farm Festival is coordinated by the Calvert County Department of Economic Development on behalf of the Calvert County Board of County Commissioners. The Farm Festival is held to educate residents about farming and to provide the public with an opportunity to interact with the farming community.
