Huntingtown  Master Plan & Zoning Ordinance:

Proposed Amendments to the Huntingtown Master Plan:

  • The Calvert County Board of County Commissioners and Planning Commission Joint Public Hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, October, 18, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. in the Courthouse Square, 205 Main Street, Prince Frederick, Maryland (access from the Duke Street parking lot).  Proposed amendments regard transportation infrastructure.  The amendments include, but are not limited to, deleting the proposal to extend Hunting Creek Road (MD 521) from its intersection with Old Town Road (MD 524) east to MD 2/4, deleting the proposed installation of a traffic signal at the new intersection, and deleting the proposed construction of an overpass or underpass that would cross MD 2/4 and connect to Cox Road.  Proposed amendments include changes to maps, figures, and the implementation strategy. 

Meetings and Events Held to Date
Updating the Huntingtown Master Plan & Zoning Ordinance

  • January, 2011:  The Board of County Commissioners approved a stakeholder workgroup to work with the Maryland State Highway Administration on the corridor management study.
    September 21, 2010: 
    The State Highway Administration informed the County Commissioners that it will conduct a corridor management study for the Huntingtown area.
  • December 14, 2009:   The Huntingtown Town Center Master Plan Update is on hold pending a response from the Maryland Department of Transportation regarding the Board of County Commissioners' request for a traffic corridor study.  For more information, see the November 10, 2009 entry below. 
  • November 10, 2009:  The Board of County Commissioners requested that the State conduct a Traffic Corridor Study in the Huntingtown Town Center vicinity, similar to the study prepared for the Dunkirk area.  The Board of Commissioners believes this study is needed before the transportation component of the Huntingtown Master Plan can be completed.  To view the letter making the request for the corridor study to the Maryland Department of Transportation, click here.
  • September 9, 2008:  Joint Public Hearing Re: Rezoning Case No. 08-1, Michael Havenner / Carriage Crossing, LLC, Huntingtown.  A joint public hearing was held in the Huntingtown High School Auditorium to consider the request by Michael Havenner to rezone the property owned by Carriage Crossing, LLC (located at 4150 Old Town Road) from the Neighborhood District to the Mixed Use District of the Huntingtown Town Center.  To view a map of the subject property, click here
  • June 25, 2008:   Planning Commission hosted speaker Thomas Hylton. Mr. Hylton's video documentary of the same title is now available for viewing on our website click here.  The book and DVD are available from the Calvert County Library.  Click here to go to the Calvert County Library's catalog to reserve your copy.
  • Photography Survey  Residents and business owners are invited to offer their opinions about the visual quality of the Town Center.  Participants are asked to submit up to 10 photographs (either digitally or in print) and a Photography Survey Log.  Deadline for submission was June 3, 2008.

  • May 13, 2008:  Walking Tour of the Huntingtown Town Center.  This workshop will provide citizens and business owners the opportunity to take a close look at the Huntingtown Town Center business core and provide input on important issues regarding the Town Center's Master Plan.  Participants are asked to bring their own cameras for a photography survey.  A brief presentation will be help prior to the walk.
