The Calvert County Department of Economic Development acts as a catalyst to enhance the economy of Calvert County by promoting quality, economic development within the parameters set by the Comprehensive Plan.

The department concentrates on working with the private sector to provide employment opportunities for Calvert County residents, increase the commercial tax base and increase the number of visitors to the county. In generating new business opportunities, the county continues to remain sensitive to the environment and responsive to community interests.

One of the services offered through the Department of Economic Development is no-cost, confidential, one-on-one business counseling through the Small Business Development Center (SBDC).

The Southern Region Small Business Development Center (SBDC) helps new and existing business owners with resources and information that support long-term success. The SBDC delivers its services primarily through low-cost workshops and FREE, confidential, one-on-one counseling in the areas of:

Start-up 8(a) and MBE Certifications
Business Plan Development and Review Loan Packaging
Marketing Plan Strategic Planning
Demographic Information Permits/Licenses
Financial Analysis    


Start-up Checklist:

Have you drafted a business plan?
Have you performed a market analysis for determining the feasibility of your business?
Have you secured financing for your business?
Have you chosen a name for your business and registered it?
Do you have a location in mind?
Have you decided on a legal structure?
Have you performed a cash flow projection to help predict revenues and expenditures?
How will you market and attract customers to your business?
Have you established a system for keeping records and recording cash flow?
Are you aware of the various tax regulations that will impact your business?
Have you obtained the appropriate permits and licenses?
