Summary of Actions Taken
Re-appointed Fredric N. Dellinger to the Cove Point Light Station Commission.
Presented a proclamation recognizing the month of January as National Mentoring Month, urging all citizens to actively support and participate in assisting with mentoring activities now and throughout the year.
A presentation was given by Murphy & Murphy, CPA, LLC, on Calvert County’s unqualified Audit Report for FY 2007. According to the audit report, Calvert County is in excellent financial condition.
A presentation was given by Pepco on the Mid-Atlantic Power Pathway (MAPP), a proposed 500-kilovolt transmission line to improve reliability and increase energy imports into the Mid-Atlantic Region including Southern Maryland, Central Maryland, and the Eastern Shore. According to Pepco, they currently do not plan to have to acquire any right-of-ways and will inform the Board if this changes.
Agreed to maintain the local match at $5,000 for the House Keys 4 Employees program, even though the Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) is reducing their State match by half. Directed staff to send a letter to DHCD expressing the Board’s disappointment and concern regarding the cutback.
Awarded Central Truck Center, of Landover, Maryland, the contract to furnish and deliver a single cab, steel body dump truck for the Water and Sewerage Division for the bid amount of $71,768.59.
Approved a Fire and Rescue Apparatus Grant in the amount of $127,655 for the North Beach Volunteer Fire Department for the purchase of a new ambulance. Directed staff to verify what will happen to the old ambulance.
Declared the repair of the fire alarm enunciator system at the Detention Center an emergency and approved a budget adjustment in the amount of $50,000.
A presentation was given by the Housing Authority of Calvert County concerning the proposal for use of a 4.37 acre parcel on Fairground Road currently owned by the County. The Board authorized moving forward with this proposal and requested an actual layout of the proposed development in conjunction with the Prince Frederick Park and Ride. Directed staff to place this presentation on the County’s website.
Held a fourth work session on the proposed Animal Control Ordinance. Directed staff to distribute a clean copy to all concerned, have copies available in the Commissioners’ office for the public, and to bring this back on the agenda with the fiscal impact.
