Summary of Actions Taken
Recognized the Department of Finance and Budget for receiving the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the National Government Finance Officers Association for the seventh year in a row. The letter received with this award states, “This is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting. Its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by your organization.”
Appointed Scott B. Collinson to the Calvert Housing Opportunities Committee as a representative of the building industry.
Reappointed Robert D. Arscott to the Dunkirk Architectural Review Committee.
Reappointed Mary S. Briscoe and appointed John J. McFadden to the Prince Frederick Architectural Review Committee.
Reappointed Matthew Gambrill to the Solomons Architectural Review Committee.
Approved the purchase of 2.87 acres from Donald W. Wuerl, Roman Catholic Archbishop of Washington, authorized the President of the Board to sign the sales contract in the amount of $426,000 in order to expand the existing parking that surrounds the County Services Plaza for the future addition to that facility, and directed staff to proceed to settlement and complete this acquisition.
Directed staff to make the adjustments to the Staff Recommended Budget as presented for the following projects: Calvert Marine Museum – defer construction for two years; and Wilson Road – move the initial phase up two years.
Awarded Floor Systems, Inc., of Huntingtown, Maryland, the Carpet and Tile Removal and Installation contract for the bid amount of $16,856.25.
Awarded Wallace Cleaning Services, of Prince Frederick, Maryland, the Custodial Services for Mt. Hope Community Center contract for the bid amount of $15,900.
Held a public hearing and approved a budget adjustment in the amount of $178,475 and a loan from the General Fund in the amount of $158,475 to provide the remaining funding needed for the replacement of the Shores of Calvert water pump station and the relocation of the internal infrastructure and water storage tank, and awarded the pump station replacement contract to Gradient Construction in the amount of $284,500. Commissioner Stinnett directed staff to contact the County’s insurance company, LGIT, to evaluate the other older building on a regular basis.
Held a work session to review several projects at the Detention Center in the proposed five year Capital Improvements Program. Approved the requested amount of $150,000 for architectural and engineering services in fiscal year 2009. Commissioner Kelley directed staff to provide the Board with the formula used to determine the projected growth. Commissioner Stinnett requested a tour of the facilities.
Attended the Calvert County Government Employees’ Service Awards ceremony at Calvert Pines Senior Center.
