Summary of Actions Taken
Tuesday, May 13, 2008
Presented a proclamation declaring the month of May 2008 as Historic Preservation Month, celebrating the role of history in our lives and the contributions made by dedicated individuals in helping to preserve the tangible aspects of our heritage.
Presented a proclamation declaring the week of May 17 – 23, 2008, as National Safe Boating Week, urging all who use our National and County waterways to acquire the knowledge and skills essential to their own safety and the safety of others. One way to reduce the number of drowning fatalities by approximately 80% is the wearing of a life jacket – “Boat Smart. Boat Safe, Wear It.”
Presented a proclamation declaring the month of May 2008 as Drug Court Month, urging all citizens to support and participate in the activities of the Calvert County Juvenile Drug Court Steering Committee now and throughout the year.
Appointed Ellen D. Hardesty to the Agricultural Preservation Advisory Committee.
Appointed Bradley Karbowsky to the Employees’ Retirement Plan Board of Trustees.
Awarded the Operation of Calvert County Visitor Information Center contract to Calvert County Chamber of Commerce for the bid amount of $93,421 for FY 2009, with a 3.7% inflation adjustment for each of the additional years (FY 2010 and FY 2011).
Approved a budget adjustment for the Board of Education in the amount of $300,000 for transportation due to the increased costs of diesel fuel.
Awarded the Spring 2008 Critical Area Reforestation Project contract to Environmental Quality Resources, LLC, of Arbutus, Maryland, for the bid amount of $35,369.50 for package 3 (sites 1-12).
Awarded the Cavalier Country Water Meter Installations contract to Bay Country Enterprises, Inc., of Leonardtown, Maryland, for the bid amount of $93,000.
Approved the request from the St. Leonard Vision Group, Inc., for the placement of interpretive signs on the St. Leonard Polling House and Garden of Remembrance sites.
Awarded the Reflective Thermoplastic Pavement Markings contract to Midlantic Markings, Inc., of Gaithersburg, Maryland, for the bid amount of $26,606.
Attended the Peace Officers’ Memorial Day ceremony and presented proclamations to the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office, Maryland Natural Resources Police, Maryland State Police Barrack U, and the Office of the State Fire Marshal declaring May 13, 2008 as Peace Officers’ Memorial Day in honor of Federal, State, and local officers killed or disabled in the line of duty, urging all citizens to observe this day with the appropriate ceremonies and display of respect which they have so nobly earned and deserve.
