Summary of Actions Taken
Presented a proclamation declaring the month of May as Maryland Chiefs’ Challenge – Click It or Ticket, urging all citizens to observe this month with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities to increase the use of safety belts, child safety seats, and booster seats with the goal of reducing the number of fatal crashes in Calvert County, to support the efforts of enforcement agencies to increase compliance with State occupant protection laws, and to encourage part-time seat belt users to make a habit for life – to always buckle up.
Presented proclamations declaring the week of May 18 – 24, 2008 as Emergency Medical Services Week, extending appreciation to all the volunteer members of Calvert County’s Volunteer Fire-Rescue-EMS squads and urged all citizens to observe this week by participating in emergency medical services’ programs, ceremonies, and activities now and throughout the year.
Appointed Steven Stadelman to the Agriculture Reconciliation Committee.
Held a public hearing and approved Budget Adjustment #556 for:
- The use of General Fund - fund balance for operations (electricity, overtime, and fuel) – $258,000;
- The application of bond premium for two capital projects – $290,047;
- The application of additional revenues received from Tri-County Council for land preservation – $210,000;
- The increased use of Excise Tax for the Wilson Road capital project – $90,000; and
- The reallocation of expenditure savings for Highway Maintenance to purchase an excavator – $100,000.
Agreed to support the request for All Saints Church to enter into an agreement with the State Highway Administration (SHA) to build a park and ride on their church property. Directed staff to state in the letter to SHA that the vote was 3-2.
Awarded the contract for auditing services to Murphy and Murphy CPA, LLC, in the amount of $70,900.
Approved Text Amendment Case No. 07-10b, Sign Regulations, as recommended by the Planning Commission without modifying the definition of berm (a mound of earth) and noted that this is being approved for residential subdivisions.
Approved the 16 applications for Certification of Development Rights on Small Lots submitted by Greenspace, LLC.
Approved the apparatus grant for the Huntingtown Volunteer Fire Department & Rescue Squad in the amount of $344,500 for the purchase of a Tanker Unit to replace Tanker 6.
Approved the apparatus grant for the Huntingtown Volunteer Fire Department & Rescue Squad in the amount of $49,075 for the purchase of a Brush Unit to replace Brush 6.
Awarded the contract for construction inspection services for the Department of Public Works road projects to KCI Technologies, Inc., and approved the issuance of a purchase order for the hourly rate of $55.60.
Awarded the contract for professional engineering services for spot safety improvement design for the Wilson Road project to Wallace, Montgomery, & Associates, LLP, in the amount of $74,358.
Held a public hearing where staff presented the proposed Fiscal Year 2009 Board of County Commissioners’ Budget. Approved leaving the public record open until close of business Monday, June 2, 2008.
