Summary of Actions Taken

Presented Lt. Kevin Cross with a certificate and a monetary award for being selected as Employee of the Month for June 2008, recognizing the outstanding job he has done, and continues to do, in developing and publishing a monthly Training Bulletin for the Detention Center staff.

Presented a proclamation declaring Tuesday, August 5, 2008, as National Night Out, urging all citizens to join the Calvert Alliance Against Substance Abuse, Inc., the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office, the Maryland State Police Barrack U, the Maryland Natural Resources Police, and the National Association of Town Watch in supporting the 25th Annual National Night Out event with this year’s theme of Neighbors Working to Make a Difference.

Reappointed Patricia Hofmann, Kathleen H. Riley, and Brenda L. Tyrrell to the Calvert County Family Network Board of Directors.

Approved and signed the letter of intent for the Maryland Higher Education Commission that confirms that the County will provide local share of funds for the design, construction, and equipment costs as they relate to the second building at the College of Southern Maryland Prince Frederick Campus. Commissioner Kelley directed staff to provide a copy of the intended use of the second building.

Held a public hearing and approved a budget adjustment in the amount of $624,000 in order to carry a 5% contingency for the construction of the Calvert County Indoor Aquatic Center with the source of funds being general obligation bonds.

Awarded J. A. Scheibel, Inc., of Huntingtown, Maryland, the contract for construction of the Calvert County Indoor Aquatic Center for a total bid amount of $13,822,000.

Approved setting the Leveraging and Retirement Fund price at $9,000 per transferrable development right, with purchasing Option 1, and directed staff to proceed with the offers to the applicants, to proceed to public hearing, and to bring the Purchase and Retirement Fund and Leveraging and Retirement Fund back next year together.
