Summary of Actions Taken
Doug Alves, Director, Calvert Marine Museum, and Richard Dodds, Curator of Maritime History, presented each Commissioner with a signed copy of the book Islands in a River Solomons and Broomes Island, Maryland. This 230-page book by Richard Dodds is based on a decade of collecting information about both places and then documenting their histories in detail tracing back to the 19th century, including historic photographs. It may be purchased from the Calvert Marine Museum Store.
Approved Budget Adjustment #150, reallocating $57,603 from Stormwater Management to the Shores of Calvert project and restored the grant funding back to the Transportation Study Program.
Awarded Kelly’s Tree and Lawn Service, of Owings, Maryland, the Fall 2008 Critical Area Reforestation Project contract for the Package 3 bid amount of $18,672.50.
Awarded Petroleum Services, Inc., of Baltimore, Maryland, the Fuel Control and Data Acquisition System contract for the total lump sum bid amount of $30,269.
Approved Budget Adjustment #170 in the amount of $39,727 in order to set up the grant awarded by the Governor’s Office on Crime Control and Prevention Byrne-Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) for CCTV/Pole Cameras for use by the Sheriff’s Office. Commissioner Kelley directed staff to inform the Board as to how many of these cameras there will be and when they will be operational.
Held a public hearing and approved the Development Agreement with John M. Gott to develop a parcel of property on the proposed West Dares Beach Road, Prince Frederick. The property will have a residential and commercial component, will provide senior and workforce housing, and is zoned Town Center. Commissioner Clark directed staff to inform the Board of the length of the road Mr. Gott is building as part of this Agreement.
Held a public hearing and approved the proposed amendments to the County’s pension and retirement plans.
Approved Budget Adjustment #169 in the amount of $29,188 in order to set up the grant awarded by the Governor’s Office on Crime Control and Prevention Byrne-Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) for Mobile Data Terminals for use by the Sheriff’s Office.
Approved the following applications for certification of development options:

APD #05-20 Goldstein Property 54.574 acres 67 development options
APD #05-21 Goldstein Property 51.25 acres 51 development options
APD #06-09 Walter B. & Doris A. Sheer; 62.5 acres 58 development options

Kings Ridge of Calvert, LLC
Appointed the following persons to the Calvert County Green Team: Terry Shannon, Sharon Strand, Terry Carlson, Lynn Thomas, Mark Willis, Debbie Shirley, Wilson Freeland, Joe Klausner, Maureen Hoffman, Joe Hawxhurst, Jim Shepherd, and Greg Bowen. Directed staff to undertake the actions as discussed during the presentation. Commissioner Stinnett directed staff to provide the actual savings in a chart form of different scenarios; provide information on the County’s spending/savings; and develop/encourage incentives for employee savings ideas. Commissioner Kelley directed staff to invite the person from the Board of Education that is in charge of their program to participate in the County’s Green Team. Commissioner Parran directed staff to look at the ways the County purchases computers, as well as a way to cool each machine in a computer room vs. the entire room.
