Summary of Actions Taken
Presented a proclamation declaring the month of November as National Hospice Month, recognizing the dedicated men and women who form a valuable network of end-of-life support in our nation’s vast health care system and encouraged all citizens to actively support and participate in assisting with Hospice activities now and throughout the year.
Presented a proclamation declaring the month of November as National Family Caregivers Month, honoring caregivers for the devotion, dedication, and support they provide to their aging, chronically ill, or disabled family members or friends.
Presented a proclamation declaring the week of October 23 – November 2, 2008, as Youth Appreciation Week, recognizing the accomplishments, achievements, and abilities of Calvert County’s young citizens.
Appointed George W. Owings, III, to the Fire and Rescue Commission.
BGE gave a presentation on the reliability improvements for Northern Calvert County. They remain committed to providing reliable electric service to Calvert County customers by continuing to address reliability issues from five elements: vegetation management, cable replacement projects, preventative maintenance programs, service restoration process improvements, and infrastructure projects that includes a new 500 kV circuit approximately 10 miles in length. Commissioner Kelley requested information on the location of the 50 Calvert County customers supplied by the Wayson’s Corner substation.
Awarded the contract for professional engineering services for the design of a water main extension from the College of Southern Maryland to the proposed Calvert County Substance Abuse Treatment Center to KCI Technologies, Inc., of Hunt Valley, Maryland, for the bid amount of $67,781.56.
Rejected all bids for the contract to provide and deliver uniforms on an as needed basis for the Sheriff’s Office and Detention Center, and directed staff to rebid this contract, removing the in-stock inventory requirement. Commissioner Clark directed staff to research the potential of utilizing a manufacturing company directly.
Reviewed the dates of the proposed schedule for updating the Solomons Town Center Zoning Ordinances, and directed staff to proceed as presented. Commissioner Stinnett directed staff to post the final approved schedule on the County’s website.
Withdrew approval of certification development options for APD #02-15. Approved the application submitted by John T. Crane for certification of development options for the Agriculture Preservation District (APD) #08-24, certifying 35 development options.
Approved the application submitted by Thomas L. Bowen and JoAnn Bowen for certification of development options for their APD #85-11, certifying 26 development options.
Approved the Charitable Bingo Permit Application submitted by the Sunderland Elementary Family School Organization.
Authorized the President of the Board to sign the final settlement documents to complete the purchase of the Chesapeake Hills Golf Course from the Maryland Economic Development Corporation.
Attended the Ribbon Cutting for the Southern Maryland Business Center located on Prince Frederick Boulevard in Prince Frederick. Commissioner Clark directed staff to provide a list of names currently located in the Southern Maryland Business Center.
