BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
Summary of Actions Taken
Tuesday, September 18, 2007

The Calvert County Fair Board presented the Commissioners with the 2007 Calvert County Fair Books. The Fair will be held Wednesday, September 26, through Sunday, September 30.

The Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) gave a presentation on the current status of road projects, reviewing several projects within Calvert County. Mr. Neil Pedersen, Administrator, State Highway Administration (SHA), stated that his two major issues are road safety and bridge safety. He challenged all local jurisdictions to create a Local Strategic Highway Safety Plan. The State’s part of the Lusby Connector Road will be complete by the fall of 2008. The first steps for the Route 231/Route 4 interchange will be the drainage and utility work, closing lanes only during non-peak hours, with the dirt work to begin in spring of 2008. SHA will continue to pursue the use of Homeland Security funding for the restoration work on the Thomas Johnson Bridge. Requested that SHA send a more detailed listing on the Dunkirk Park and Ride development.

Held a public hearing and approved the application seeking Historic District designation for the Browns Methodist Church located in Parker’s Creek.

Appointed Keven B. Zinn to the Board of Commissioners of the Housing Authority of Calvert County.

Appointment Ellen Dawn Hardesty to the Economic Development Commission.

Rejected all bids submitted for the Keyless Access for Team Base Gate and Building Contract. Directed staff to confirm that the funding for this contract is coming from the Public Safety budget.

Approved the seven gambling permit applications for 14 different events.  Directed staff to dispose of all old Gambling Permit Application forms (revised 2002), add a revision date to the new forms, and provide all applicants with the new form.

Held a luncheon with the Calvert County Chamber of Commerce to discuss various County issues. Directed staff to address the next Executive Committee meeting of the Chamber to explain the various business classifications required for the Patuxent Business Park. Directed staff to schedule the next meeting with the Chamber in April 2008.
