Summary of Actions Taken
Presented the following Calvert Marine Museum (CMM) employees with the Team Excellence Award for their willingness to go above and beyond the call of duty to answer the need for a recycling program at CMM: Tim Scheirer, Exhibit Technician; Lori Cole, Education Assistant; Linda Hanna, Aquarist; Laura Magdeburger, Aquarist; Mindy Quinn, Exhibit Interpreter II; Sherry Reid, Volunteer Events Coordinator; Rachel Reese, Exhibit Graphics Technician.
Re-elected Commissioner Wilson Parran to serve as the President of the Board of County Commissioners for another year and elected Commissioner Jerry Clark to serve as the Vice President.
Appointed Commissioner Wilson Parran as the member and Commissioner Linda Kelley as the alternate member on the Maryland Association of Counties Legislative Committee for 2008.
Approved the Gambling Permit Applications submitted by six organizations for the first quarter of 2008. Directed staff to make sure the establishments providing Instant Bingo are aware that they are not in compliance with the new Gambling Permit Rules and Regulations; to inform the Board as to what the Bay Arts Center, Inc. business is as a 501(c)(3) organization; and provide samples of completed accounting forms from these types of events, especially Texas Hold ’em events.
Awarded the contract for bituminous concrete and cold patch to Bardon, Inc., d/b/a Aggregate Industries, of Greenbelt, Maryland, for the bid amount of $99,750.
The Department of Planning and Zoning gave a presentation on the new Permit/Project Application Status System (P.A.S.S.) that will be available on the County’s website beginning January 1, 2008, allowing applicants 24-hour access to permit or site plan status.
Awarded 22 contracts for de-nitrification systems to four vendors for a total amount of $309,225, using funds provided through the Bay Restoration Fund grant.
Awarded the contract for the directional drilling of a 12” water main under Stoakley Road at the intersection of Theatre Drive to Certified Maintenance Co., Inc., of Huntingtown, Maryland, for the bid amount of $44,300.
Approved a budget adjustment in the amount of $31,200 to provide the funding necessary to complete the additional field inspection and permitting services required for the Mason Court Well Reconstruction project.
Approved a budget adjustment in the amount of $40,000 to provide the funding for the engineering design services for construction of a new water line extension on Stafford Road and to add this project to the FY 2009 Capital Improvement Project Budget.
Held a work session on the pending Zoning Ordinance Amendments and authorized staff to take the amendments to public hearing as discussed except for Case No. 07-8a and 07-8c. Directed staff to research and inform the Board of the capacity of the Healing and Deliverance Church being built on Route 4, south of Prince Frederick.
Held a work session on the proposed revised Animal Control Ordinance. This work session will continue into the new year.
Held a joint public hearing with the Planning Commission regarding the Critical Area Map changes requested for Patuxent Plaza Shopping Center. Approved taking the requested change from Limited Development Area to Intense Development Area to the Critical Area Commission for consideration as a mistake, and if not accepted as a mistake on the original map, to use 6.93 of the County’s growth allocation to make the change in designation.
Attended a farewell celebration for the Department of Planning and Zoning’s Deputy Director, Chris Campany, who will be leaving to pursue a career as a Professor of Architectural Design at Mississippi State University.
