Calvert County Volunteer Boards and Commissions

To give the citizens of Calvert County an opportunity for active participation in their local government in an area of concern or interest to them, the Board of County Commissioners has established volunteer boards, commissions, committees, trustees, etc. (hereinafter, referred to as "committee").  Most committees are headed by a chairman, but several are directed by County staff.  A number of committees, such as the Electrical, Plumbing, and Building boards, are appointed by the Governor.  Each committee operates by a set of by-laws and most have been established by Resolution.

Among the interests represented on the committees are:  health and welfare, social programs, environmental issues, agricultural preservation, economic development and tourism, women’s issues, architectural review, and others.  There are over 50 volunteer committees and the County Commissioners rely on the research and specialized nature of these committee members for their recommendations and expertise.  As such, each member of the Board of County Commissioners takes the responsibility of appointing members to these committees very seriously.

As vacancies occur, they are announced on the County's Get Involved  webpage (click the Get Involved link to be directed to the vacancy anouncement), Comcast Channel 6, and in the local newspapers.  Applications may be obtained from the Commissioners' Office (175 Main Street, Room 205, Prince Frederick, MD), any Calvert County Public Library branch, or by clicking here.
