Summary of Action Taken
Tuesday, March 9, 2004
Recognized winners of the Black History Month Poster Contest sponsored by Constellation Energy/Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant.
Presented proclamations in connection with Women’s Recognition sponsored by the Calvert County Commission for Women.
Met with the consultant regarding the scope of work for the transportation study of the Huntingtown area. Made additions to the scope of work to include topography of roads proposed and also study Cox Road from Huntingtown High School to its intersection at Plum Point Road.
Appointed Caroline Baier-Anderson to the Environmental Commission to fill a vacancy due to a term expiration.
Appointed Ronald Collier, Sr. to the Social Services Advisory Board to fill a vacancy due to a resignation.
Approved a historic district tax credit for the Mills House.
Discussed alternate work schedules for County employees. Approved that the department head have the flexibility to modify work schedules short-term; established core work hours of 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with one hour flexibility (morning and afternoon); directed that offices be covered from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; and any change in work hours be for a three month period. This will be for a trial period of three months.
Approved that the County subsidy for retiree’s health insurance remain at 90%.
Deferred action on a request from the Library for an increase in their operating budget.
Approved Board of Education FY 2004 restricted funds budget adjustment #1.
Awarded the contract for a tractor for Emergency Management to the low bidder, Central Truck Center.
Approved the recommendation of staff that the bids for collection and removal of white goods and scrap metal be rejected, the bid specifications be revised, and the contract re-bid.
Approved that owners of Agricultural Preservation Districts be allowed to re-record their covenant document to allow placement of communication towers. Minor amendments were made to the covenant document.
Deferred action on establishing a "TDR Exchange" list to be posted in local newspapers. Requested additional information.
Approved budget adjustment #349, reallocating funds in the Fire/Rescue/EMS Recruitment and Retention budget for tuition reimbursement.
Approved that a membership slot for a retired County employee be established on the Employee Recognition Committee.
Held a work session with Technology Services on their capital budget requests and wireless communication.
Attended a public meeting hosted by the Maryland Transit Administration regarding the proposed park and ride lot to be constructed on the old fairgrounds property.
