BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

Summary of Action Taken

Tuesday, October 5, 2004

Received capital credits check from Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO).

Approved a resolution supporting the Community Legacy Grant for Linden and authorized the President of the Board to sign the grant documents.

Awarded the contract for modernization of the south wing Courthouse elevator to the low bidder, Millennium Elevator, Inc.

Awarded the contract for outfield fencing at Hallowing Point Park to the low bidder, Long Fence Company, Inc.

Held a public hearing on a budget adjustment for renovations and addition to Sunderland Elementary School.  Approved budget adjustment #137 using school excise funds for the project.

Awarded contracts as recommended for purchase of County vehicles.

Discussed revising the County Tuition Assistance Program regarding the maximum amount reimbursed for fees.  Approved amending the Tuition Assistance Program to state that fees will be reimbursed at 80% of the cost.

Received an update on the Cove Point Aquatic Center.

Participated in the Maryland You Are Beautiful Awards Ceremony.

Reviewed a proposed amendment to the Zoning Ordinance regarding the APFO for commercial and industrial uses.  Directed that staff return with agency comments for review before a public hearing is scheduled.

Approved budget adjustment #135 transferring funds out of the Land Preservation Fund in connection with the FY 2003 Rural Legacy Grant for acquisition of three parcels.  Authorized the President of the Board to sign the grant documents.

Approved Certification of Development Options – Crofton and Kimberly Briscoe.

Approved scheduling a public hearing on a budget adjustment in connection with the construction of the Fleet Maintenance Facility. 

Awarded the contract for bituminous concrete overlay to the low bidder, C.A. Bean, Inc.

Held a work session with staff on water and sewer rate restructuring.  Approved moving forward with a public hearing on two rate scenarios:  (1) system by system; and (2) one rate system.
