Summary of Action Taken
Tuesday, January 25, 2005

 


Held a work session for Water & Sewer rate adjustments for Public Information meeting #3 for Chesapeake Heights, Dares Beach, the Industrial Park, and Prince Frederick.  

Approved for staff to schedule this Public Information meeting.

Approved that a rate adjustment information letter be mailed to all customers of Chesapeake Heights, Dares Beach, the Industrial Park, and Prince Frederick to invite them to the Public Information meeting. 

Approved the information be posted on the County website.

Held a Capital Improvement Project Budget work session.

Appointed Henry Trentman to the Agricultural Land Preservation Advisory Board.

Reviewed an Office Space Lease proposal for the Courthouse Square office building located at the corner of Main Street and Duke Street. 

Approved for the President of the County Commissioners to sign the lease, and the County enter into a five-year lease agreement for County office space use.  The Lease Agreement is from May 01, 2005 to May 01, 2010.
Deferred a request from Division of Environmental Health at the Calvert County Health Department to increase their permit fees.

Authorized the County Health Department to conduct a Fluoridation Study for Public Water Systems in the County.
The study will be grant funded from the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

The Calvert Country Market received $28,167.00 from the Southern Maryland Agricultural Development Commission (SMADC) as part of the tobacco buyout funds.  Tabled the discussion for allocation of funds for the $28,167.00 grant.      Staff is requested to return February 01, 2005 with additional information.

Approved two Tourism Advisory Committee projects from remaining funds in the 350th Anniversary Celebration account. 

Approved to use $13,000 to establish a scholarship endowment at the College of Southern Maryland. 

Approved another $12,000 to establish a Public Gift used to create public displays at Chapline Place Shopping Center by fabricating a series of panels that depict the County attractions at the “Lighthouse” between to the Food Lion and the Chinese Buffet.

Approved to re-convene the Compensation Review Board and proceed with the appointment process for new members so that recommendations can be submitted to the General Assembly for those officials to be elected in 2006.

Held a joint work session with the Planning Commission regarding re-writing of the Zoning Ordinance and reviewed the work session schedule.

Met with Dr. Peter Luongo, Director of Alcohol & Drug Abuse Administration, regarding the State Treatment Facility to discuss funding for the County’s drug treatment program.
