BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

Summary of Actions Taken

Tuesday, April 26, 2005

 

Presented a proclamation to Dan Hartley in honor of his 15 years of Public Service to Calvert County.

Declared May Senior Citizen Month in Calvert County.

Kelly Chambers gave an update on United Way in honor of their 25h anniversary.

Kerri Lipperini and Sheriff Mike Evans presented the Commissioners with the Ribbons by S.A.L.T. Council in honor of Law Enforcement Month.

Marguerite “Kelly” Holzberger was honored as Employee of the Month for the safe delivery of a beautiful baby girl over the telephone.

Two Team Excellence Awards were received:

             1.  Department of Public Safety for their accident response coordination 
                  of an accident while their system was shutting down.

             2.  Elections Board and Technology Services members were honored
                   for their team work in implementing the new voting machines for the 2004 elections.

Approved the appointment of Patricia Estep to the Core Service Agency Advisory Board.

Approved the re-appointment of Mary Jenkins and Gerald McCoy to the Huntingtown Architectural Committee.

Approved the re-appointment of Alexander Lavish to the Lusby Town Center Architectural Review Committee.

Authorized Technology Services to proceed with the implementation of the new County website.

At the recommendation of staff, awarded Sportsphere, from Houston, Texas, the contract for reversible T-shirts for the Department of Parks and Recreation.

Awarded the contract for the operation of the Dunkirk Park Concession to John Thomas, Chesapeake Beach, Maryland. Directed the County Attorney to research and respond via memo as to who “option to renew” was granted.

Authorized the Clerk of the Board of County Commissioners to place an advertisement for a public hearing regarding the establishment of an Economic Development Incentive Fund.

Directed the staff of the Department of Economic Development to schedule a work session regarding Chesapeake Hills Golf Course, which will consist of a site visit.

Approved the recommendation of the Department of Finance & Budget to schedule a public hearing for a budget adjustment to transfer $3 million to FY 2005 for the new Public Safety software system.

Approved the budget adjustment for the Board of Education’s transfer of funds from the Instructional Salaries and Special Education categories in the amount of $100,000 and $175,000 respectively, to Student Transportation in the amount of $275,000.

Approved granting a gambling permit to Bayside Blues, Inc. at the recommendation of the Gambling Permit Review Committee.

Directed the County Attorney to obtain a second opinion regarding Alternative C as presented by Greg Bowen, Director, Planning and Zoning, regarding Big Box regulations, and bring it back to the Board of County Commissioners in two weeks.

Directed Greg Bowen, Director, Planning and Zoning, to revise Alternative C regarding Big Box regulations as discussed and bring back to the Board of County Commissioners.

Held a joint work session with the Planning Commission regarding the re-writing of the Calvert County Zoning Ordinances.
