Summary of Actions Taken
Tuesday, September 13, 2005
Adopted Harrison County, Mississippi, as Calvert County’s sister county, and approved up to $50,000 from the County Commissioners contingency fund to be used to purchase disaster assistance supplies needed by citizens of Harrison County. St. Leonard Volunteer Fire Department will transport donated supplies directly to the Harrison County Office of Emergency Management.
Recognized Joseph Showalter’s retirement from the Historic District Commission after serving 25 years.
Received the Services for Children, Youth, and Families Public Report presented by the League of Women Voters of Calvert County (LWVCC). Directed staff to put a link to this report from the LWVCC’s website on the County’s website.
Approved Historic District designation for the McKnight-Smith Cabin in Scientists’ Cliff.
Appointed Charlethia Yvette Awkward, Patrick Kohn, and Frank Krohnert, III to the Commission on Aging.
Re-appointed Gayle Blizzard, Susan Haynes, Mary Klausner, and Sunny Wainwright and appointed Crystal Bracey, Rebecca Hopwood, and Francienne Saucedo to the Commission for Women.
Approved Change Order No. 5 in the amount of $46,632.80 for the Prince Frederick Boulevard contract for additional under drain installation, reconstruction of West Dares Beach Road intersection and associated traffic control, and additional soil boring testing for the retaining wall construction.
Approved Change Order No. 6 in the amount of $33,800.70 for the Prince Frederick Boulevard contract in order to provide unit price adjustments for asphalt surface and base course pavement quantities included in the contract.
Approved the set price of $9,000 for each leveraging development right, directed staff to proceed with the four Leveraging and Retirement (LAR) applications received, and hold a public hearing for the LAR program.
Approved donating $25,000 to the Calvert Environmental Trust for Youth from the Critical Area Reforestation Evaluation fees-in-lieu funds.
Awarded the Johnston Construction Company of Dover, Pennsylvania, the Lusby Water Boosting Pumping Station contract for the bid amount of $587,869. This contract is to provide all labor, material, and equipment necessary for the construction of this pumping station.
Awarded American Tennis Courts, Inc. of Baltimore, Maryland, the Tennis Court Resurfacing Project at Dunkirk District Park contract for the bid amount of $90,825. This contract is to provide all labor, material, supervision, and equipment necessary to resurface four double tennis courts at Dunkirk District Park.
Awarded Calvert Memorial Hospital of Prince Frederick, Maryland, the Food Services – Congregate and Home Delivered Meals contract for the bid amount of $3.69 for each congregate meal and $4.08 for each home delivered meal.
