Summary of Actions Taken
Tuesday, September 27, 2005
The Maryland Department of Transportation gave a presentation on the current status of road projects. Reviewed several projects within Calvert County. Staff is to provide Greg Welker the number of commuter bus users for the College of Southern Maryland for the traffic light study that is in progress.
Ruth Harrod, Director, Office of Home Energy Programs, Southern Maryland Tri-County Community Action, Inc. accepted a proclamation recognizing their 40th Anniversary and Community Action Week.
Presented a certificate and monetary gift to Gladys Wilde, Payroll Technician, as Employee of the Month for August.
Awards ceremony was held for the Calvert County Maryland You Are Beautiful winners. Jesse Jo Bowen was selected to represent Calvert County at the State presentation.
Approved the request by the Town of Chesapeake Beach to build three (3) pavilions and one (1) storage building.
Approved three (3) TDR’s and two (2) APD’s as presented.
Awarded the contract to perform engineering and design services for the Solomons Town Center to Greenhorne & O’Mara for the contract amount $124,500.
Accepted Option 1 as presented by staff for the Bituminous Concrete Overlay Program, which was to reject all bids and re-bid the contract in the spring. Directed staff to find out what needs to be done to get back on a 20-year cycle for the FY 2007 budget. Also, directed staff to confirm that any new road projects have the up-to-date specifications for today’s requirements.
Approved staff taking the request for a budget adjustment for the upgrade of the Prince Frederick Pump Station No. 3 to public hearing.
Approved a budget adjustment in the amount of $20,000 from the Commissioner’s Contingency Fund for the modification to the Park and Ride lot at the Old Fairgrounds.
Approved requests as presented for the purchase of County Vehicles. Directed staff to answer the following questions:
1. Is there a plan to gradually replace all cars with SUV’s in the Sheriff’s Office? Will they be marked? What are they replacing?
2. Will the low bidder keep his bid once the State opens their bids in mid-November? What is the price difference between the low bidder and the State’s bid?
3. Who certifies the pursuit vehicles?
Approved the recommendation from the Gambling Permit Review Committee for five additional charitable gambling permits for 4th quarter 2005.
Approved recommendations made by staff to take the “Water & Sewer Rates – A New Approach” to three public meetings and two public hearings.
