Summary of Actions Taken
Tuesday, October 4, 2005
Presented a proclamation to the Solomons Volunteer Rescue Squad and Fire Department in recognition of their 50th Anniversary.
Presented a proclamation recognizing the St. Leonard Fun Fest to be held on Saturday, October 15, at the St. Leonard Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company’s new pavilion.
Presented a proclamation recognizing October as Healthcare Career Awareness Month. The Healthcare Career Expo will be held at the College of Southern Maryland on Thursday, October 13, 3:00 - 6:00 p.m.
Safe Harbor presented $40,000 to the Board of County Commissioners, which had been raised to help support Safe Harbor’s budget. Also recognized October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Recognized Sergeant Todd Ireland and Corporal Tony Moschetto for receiving outstanding law enforcement awards sponsored by the State Highway Administration and the Maryland Highway Safety Office.
Held a public hearing and approved budget adjustment 103 for the use of $200,000 from Recordation Fees to be used for public transportation funding.
Held a public hearing and approved budget adjustment 139 to increase the GIS project budget by $441,148, the total wireless project budget by $694,739, and the public safety computer project budget by $95,000, for a total technology projects increase in appropriations of $1,230,887.
Directed staff to find out how much it will cost to put a GIS chip in each Sheriff’s car.
Presentation was given by Master Greg Wells and Coordinator Brian Davis on the Juvenile Drug Court.
Approved the four recommendations from the staff regarding the apparatus review of Engine 51:
1. Replace Engine 51 during the FY 2006 fiscal year.
2. Re-allocate the $100,000 currently in the FY 2006 CIP budget for apparatus rehab towards the replacement of Engine 51.
3. Forgive the balance of the County’s Service Agreement and Grant of Security Interest for Engine 51, which as of July 1, 2005, is $86, 240.
4. Accept the offer from Dunkirk VFDRS to finance the remaining balance of the purchase price for the replacement of Engine 51.
Directed the staff of the Department of Personnel to go forward with the Draft County Code Amendments – Personnel Chapter 86 as presented to meetings with the County Employee Representative Committee and the Fraternal Order of Police and bring the results back to the Board of County Commissioners. Directed staff to get a copy of the Sheriff’s new pay policy.
Reviewed the legislative items as presented by the County Attorney for consideration at their meeting with the Maryland Legislature on October 18, 7:00 p.m., at Calvert Pines Senior Center. Made recommendations/changes and directed the Attorney to bring a final draft back to the Board of County Commissioners.
Approved signing the Memorandum of Understanding between the Maryland Emergency Management Agency and Calvert County, supporting the purchase of the Lynco Bearcat, using grant funds received.
Directed staff to bring the Maryland Transportation Authority in to discuss the Bay Bridge Crossing project.
The Department of Finance and Budget held a work session to present the FY 2007 Budget Strategy. Directed staff to proceed as requested.
Directed staff to schedule a work session to discuss the County’s road plans – present and future.
Directed staff to schedule a work session to discuss the County’s road ordinance.
