BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
Summary of Actions Taken
Tuesday, October 18, 2005
Mr. William Smith and Pastor Darrell Zoller, Board Members, Calvert Alliance Against Substance Abuse, Inc. (CAASA), accepted a proclamation in recognition of Red Ribbon Week, October 23 – 29, a national substance abuse prevention campaign sponsored by the National Family Partnership, locally sponsored by CAASA.
Appointed Reverend Julie Wizorek and Reverend Tim Vamosi to the Social Services Advisory Board for three-year terms. Directed staff to find out if our policy of in-eligibility after serving two consecutive three-year terms is a state mandate.
Re-appointed Scott McComb and Harry W. Wedewer to the Heritage Committee for three-year terms.
Approved the President of the Board to sign the Sub-recipient Agreement for the Linden House with the Calvert Historical Society.
Approved entering into a contract with Grimm & Parker for schematic design services for the Twin Beach Library in the amount of $18,720. Directed staff to find out what the original offer from RAR Associates was that made it look so attractive. Once the design has been completed and the negotiations have taken place with RAR, bring the results back to the Board. Also, to bring back budgets from both the Twin Beach and Southern Branch Libraries.
Approved taking the four items presented with only one minor change to Legislature for action:
1. Amend public law regarding appointment to the Electrical and Plumbing Boards.
2. Amend the expiration of dog licenses to one year from date of issue instead of one expiration date County-wide.
3. Tax Credits for Economic Development projects that demonstrate extraordinary economic impact.
4. Bonding authorization request for a total amount of $48,100,000.
Approved the application from Walter T. and Bernadette B. Stundick to convert lots to TDR’s.
Granted a historic tax credit in the amount of $8,775 to Prince Frederick Associates, LLC for the restoration work completed at the Old Field Inn.
Approved the request to permanently change the Saturday hours for the Senior Centers to 8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Directed staff to get a copy for the Board of the evaluation/report results from the trial period
Awarded the Selective Tree Trimming Contract to G & V Tree Service, Inc. of Springfield, Virginia for the bid amount of $80,400.
Held a public hearing and approved budget adjustment 150 for $306,482.50 from capital connection funds to be used for the upgrade of Prince Frederick Pump Station No. 3.
Held a joint work session with the Planning Commission regarding the re-writing of the Zoning Ordinance: Set 5 (Articles 5 and 7, part of 12), Set 6 (Articles 9, 10, 11, and part of 12), Set 7 brief (Article 8).
Held a legislative meeting at Calvert Pines Senior Center. Presented the Southern Maryland Delegation with four items for consideration during the 2006 legislative year.
