Summary of Actions Taken

Presented a proclamation to Calvert Alliance Against Substance Abuse, Inc. (CAASA) and the Calvert County Traffic Safety Council (CCTSC) in support of their Designated Driver Campaign, which runs December 1, 2005 – January 2, 2006. CAASA and CCTSC also presented awards to the following officers for their support of the need to reduce drunken driving crashes in Calvert County:
Maryland State Police – TFC Bruce W. Bevard, Jr., TFC Christopher M. Bowling, TFC Wayne A. Koch, TFC Seth T. Huber, TFC Eric N. White
Calvert County Sheriff's Office – DFC Richard Wilson, Corporal Anthony Moschetto, Corporal Thomas Phelps, Deputy William R. Milam, Deputy Elvis A. Carter, Deputy Joseph M. Hudson
Marshall Gibson, Solomons Business Association (SBA), gave an update on SBA’s activities for 2005, highlighting the upcoming Christmas Walk to be held Friday, December 9, and Saturday, December 10. SBA gave awards of appreciation to:
Marrick Properties for Oyster Bay Condominiums – accepted by Jay Webster
Bozick Distributors for Taste of Solomons – accepted by Jeff Hinds
Glasscock Family for their undying support of the community
Calvert Marine Museum for their generous help in the community – accepted by Doug Alves, Director
Appointed Matthew J. Hickman to the Board of Library Trustees.
Re-appointed David E. Butler and Robert L. Swann, appointed Robert S. Crum to complete a vacated term, and appointed Dennis M. King, Robert S. Currie, and Karen Everett to the Calvert Marine Museum Board of Governors.
Approved a class NG Beach Bingo license for Eagle Amusements, Inc. for use at Trader’s Restaurant in Chesapeake Beach. Directed staff to bring back as a package for discussion: rate structure, renewal process, and regulations regarding bingo permits.
Re-elected David Hale as President and elected Wilson Parran as Vice President of the Board of County Commissioners for 2006; and re-appointed Corinne J. Cook as Clerk of the Board of County Commissioners for 2006.
Approved the letter of support for the Dominion Cove Point Expansion Project to be sent to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission with only two modifications and authorized the President to sign the letter.
Approved the apparatus grant requested by the Solomons Volunteer Rescue Squad and Fire Department, allowing Brush 3 to be relocated into the vacant BX-3 slot at the Solomons Annex Station and the purchase of a brush truck (Brush 3) at a cost of $42,369.
Approved the conversion of lots to 2½ Transferable Development Rights (TDRs) for Melanie Maholick of Chesapeake Ranch Estates (#05-04).
Approved the conversion of lots to 2½ Transferable Development Rights (TDRs) for Dennis M. Long of Chesapeake Ranch Estates (#05-06).
Approved the conversion of lots to 2½ Transferable Development Rights (TDRs) for RMJ Properties Limited Partnership c/o Marrick Properties, Inc. (#05-07).
Directed staff to bring recommendations regarding Waste Management’s operational and rate adjustments requests for the Calvert County Transfer Station agreement back to the Board for consideration.
Approved the re-organization of the Department of Planning and Zoning as presented. Directed staff to bring back a budget adjustment for FY 2006 and add the new positions to the FY 2007 budget discussions.
Held a public hearing at St. Leonard Volunteer Fire Department regarding water and sewer rates. Presented two rate approaches – the System Rate and the Base + Variable Rate – to the public for comment and input. The record will remain open until 4:30 p.m. on Monday, December 12, 2005.
