Presented proclamations declaring March 23 – 29, 2009, as Agriculture Week, urging all citizens to recognize this week, be mindful of the role agriculture plays in their lives, and to acknowledge the importance of agriculture to Calvert County’s viability.
The ARC of Southern Maryland gave a presentation of their renovations that are currently underway at their West Dares Beach Road location.
Staff gave an update on “Sustainable Agriculture in Calvert County, including short-term and long-term actions.
Appointed Rev. Kenneth O. Phelps Jr. to the Calvert Housing Opportunities Committee.
Reappointed C. Douglass Alves Jr., William A. Nagel, Wayne M. Rogers, and Margaret E. VanAuker and appointed Barbara Mason and Thomas M. Kearney to the Cove Point Light Station Commission.
Reappointed Miriam A. Gholl, Francis T. Jones, Carol Lynn Thomas, and Julian Mark Willis and appointed Lawrence P. Carlson, Alice Galligan, and Thomas Parran III to the Employee Recognition Committee.
Appointed George B. Ernst, Jeffrey J. Krahling, Raymond R. Mahar, and Carl F. Vogt to the Gambling Permit Review Committee. Commissioner Kelley directed staff to investigate if we are able to include a permanent position for the Maryland State Police representative and to provide the requirements for the Committee appointees.
Directed staff to take the proposed Residential Fire Sprinkler Ordinance with the additional information discussed to public hearing.
Approved the request by Mr. Richard Hance to change his Lots 7 – 10 in Bayview Estates to “Non-age restricted.”
Awarded the Stoakley Road Bridge Replacement contract to Espina Paving, Inc., of Woodbridge, Virginia, for the bid amount of $208,974.
Approved budget adjustment in the amount of $39,700, in order to implement the Anti-Gang Strategy Equipment Grant received from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the purchase of a covert surveillance camera for the Southern Maryland Intelligence Center task force.
Directed staff to take the Comprehensive Solid Waste Management Plan for agency comment and return to the for Board review and approval to schedule a joint public hearing.
