Summary of Actions Taken
Presented Frances Lopez with a certificate and monetary award as Employee of the Month for February 2009, recognizing the superior job she did in coordinating and implementing the County ID Badge Program for the approximately 1,000 fulltime, part-time, and temporary employees.
Dr. Bradley Gottfried, President, College of Southern Maryland (CSM), gave the annual State of the College presentation. The Prince Frederick Campus experienced a 7% increase in enrollment from 2007 to 2008 and a 22% increase in enrollment in four years; as well as a 4% increase in fulltime enrollment in one year and a 41% increase in four years. The State of the College is very good, despite concerns about funding, how to keep CSM affordable, and the ability to retain vitality in the current economic climate.
Ratified the effective date for the new Water and Sewer Capital Connection rates as Friday, April 10, 2009, and signed the related Ordinance. All fees paid prior to that time will be at the rate currently in effect.
Approved the request for a Quitclaim Deed for the estate of Mary McMullen, releasing any claim the County might have to a portion of the estate property located at the end of Dares Beach Road.
Awarded the Hauling and Disposing of Sewage Sludge Contract to Duffield Hauling, Inc., of King George, Virginia, for the bid amount of $58.63/ton. Directed staff to include last years rates on all awards.
Awarded the Exterior Painting/Staining/Power Washing Contract to Performance Painting & Restoration, of Port Republic, Maryland, based on their unit prices.
Authorized the President of the Board to sign the Substance Abuse Grant Application once the 50-page application is completed by staff. Directed staff to provide the status of the Work Release/Detention Center/Substance Abuse project as well as a copy of the approved application.
Approved and signed the letter of support for to the Maryland Heritage Areas Authority’s FY 2010 project grant application submitted by the American Chestnut Land Trust for their Prince Frederick to Chesapeake Bay Overlook Trail project.
Held a joint work session with the Planning Commission on the Solomons Zoning Ordinance and directed staff to take the majority of issues presented to the public for comment.
Held a public hearing for comment on the FY 2010 Staff Recommended Budget.
