Awards
The Calvert County Government has received two awards from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). The Distinguished Budget Presentation award and the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting awards were granted to Calvert County and reflect the commitment of the governing body and staff to meet the highest principles of governmental budgeting and financial reporting.
In order to receive the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award , Calvert County had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. The guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity's budget serves as: a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide, and a communications device. The budget document had to be rated "proficient" in all four categories to receive the award.
The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting was awarded to Calvert County for preparing a Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) that demonstrates a constructive "spirit of full disclosure" to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.
When one of these awards is granted to an entity, a certificate is presented to the individual or department designated as being primarily responsible for its having achieved the award. These awards have been presented to the Department of Finance & Budget. Award recipients have pioneered efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and financial reporting and provide an excellent example for other governments throughout North America.
The Government Finance Officers Association is a nonprofit professional association serving 14,000 government finance professionals throughout North America.
