Calvert County Suspends Permit Fees, Offers Fast Tracking for Storm Cleanup Projects
To ensure residents can quickly proceed with storm cleanup related to Hurricane Irene, effective today, the Calvert County Board of Commissioners is fast-tracking permits and temporarily suspending permit fees related to tree removal and building and structure repairs.
The process will be in place through Oct. 31, 2011. Emergency work may be initiated before a permit is obtained, though a permit should be applied for within 24 hours. The fast-track building permit process is available Tuesdays and Thursdays with the goal of giving same-day approvals for projects located outside the 100-year floodplain. Electrical and plumbing permits will be fast-tracked five days a week.
The fast-track approval process applies only to storm-related repairs and in-kind replacements in the same location. If the structure is in the 100-year floodplain, FEMA floodplain regulations apply, and the process may take longer.
A detailed description of the fast-track permitting program is available online here. For more information, call the county Division of Inspections and Permits at 410-535-2155.
