PLUMBING/GAS CONTRACTOR'S LICENSE

Before engaging in the business of plumbing in Calvert County or representing that the individual is authorized to engage in that business an individual shall hold a current license issued by the Board.
The following Plumbing Contractor's licenses can be issued by Calvert County (see below for descriptions)
Master Plumber
Journeyman Plumber
Master Gas Fitter
Journeyman Gas Fitter
How to Obtain a Plumbing/Gas Contractor’s License
Application and Fee Submittal:
The applicable Plumber's/Gas Fitter's application, with original signatures, must be submitted to the Inspections and Permits' office* along with:
(1) an original, signed, and active Maryland State license (The Maryland State license must cover the scope of work for which you intend pulling permits)
(2) the original Certificate of Insurance in the amount of $100,00 property damage and $300,00 liability coverage listing "Calvert County Plumbing Board" as the Certificate Holder,
(3) a valid driver's license, and
(4) a Plumbing license fee of $25.00 (Checks are made payable to the Calvert County Treasurer.)
* All new applicants must apply in person.
Review:
The Calvert County Plumbing Board will review the application and supporting documents.
Incomplete packages will be denied.
After review and approval of the application, the license will be mailed to the the Master Plumber's company address.
License Renewals:
All plumbing/gas licenses expire on May 31 every two (2) years. Renewal applications are usually mailed to the licensee’s last known address six to eight weeks prior to the expiration of the license. The licensee is responsible for submitting a renewal application and all requested supporting documentation.
Written change of address notifications are very important in the renewal process.
Types of Plumbing/Gas Contractor’s Licenses
Master Plumber
Person must have held a journey license for at least two years; and
Person must have completed 3,700 hours of training under the direction and control of a licensed master plumber; and
Person must pass a comprehensive written examination.
Journeyman Plumber
Person must have held an apprentice license for at least 4 years; and
Person must have completed 7,500 hours of training under the control and direction of a licensed master plumber; and
Person must have completed 32 hours of training in backflow prevention device testing; and
Person must pass a comprehensive written examination.
Master Gas Fitter
Person must have held a journey license for at least two years; and
Person must have completed 3,700 hours of training under the direction and control of a licensed master plumber; and
Person must pass a comprehensive written examination.
Journeyman Gas Fitter
Person must have held an apprentice license for at least 4 years; and
Person must have completed 7,500 hours of training under the control and direction of a licensed master plumber; and
Person must have completed 32 hours of training in backflow prevention device testing; and
Person must pass a comprehensive written examination.
