The Engineering/Transportation Bureau staff develops, coordinates, issues, evaluates and monitors proposals and contracts for highway maintenance and capital projects. The bureau also reviews residential and commercial plans for subdivision plats, reviews building and grading permits, collects and monitors bonding, and coordinates road development and stormwater management inspections with the Division of Project Management. The department’s Fleet Maintenance Division is responsible for the management and maintenance of the county government’s fleet of vehicles. The Highway Maintenance Division is responsible for maintaining approximately 900 lane miles of county roads.

The department oversees the Enterprise Fund Operations which consists of the Solid Waste Division, whose staff maintains and operates the landfill and the solid waste collection system, and the Water and Sewerage Division, whose staff maintains and operates the county’s public water and sewer facilities.

To provide Calvert County citizens with cost-effective, safe, quality and environmentally friendly facilities, infrastructure and services through creative planning, quality design, efficient construction and proper maintenance in a team-oriented environment.
