Shelters
If you are asked to shelter in place:
- DON'T PANIC -- STAY CALM!! There will be enough time to protect yourself and your family.
- If you are outside, go indoors immediately.
- Follow all instructions given on the Emergency Alert System.
- DO NOT dial 911 unless you have a life-threatening emergency.
- Close all windows and doors. Use masking or duct tape to tape cracks around windows and doors for extra protection. Use damp towels to cover cracks under doors.
- Turn off heating and air conditioning units and close fireplace dampers.
- Keep pets indoors. If possible, shelter farm animals.
- Cover food and put uncovered food in the refrigerator. Food in sealed containers is safe to eat. Well water is safe unless told otherwise.
- DO NOT attempt to pick children up from school. They will be cared for in their school in accordance with existing emergency plans.
- If you are in a car, keep windows and air vents closed.
- Continue to listen to Emergency Alert System for updated information and instructions.
