Calvert County GIS (Geographic Information System) is enhancing the way County Government serves its citizens. GIS technology allows users to view and analyze data and geographic information in an integrated way. Using GIS capabilities, 911 Dispatchers are able to view the location of emergency calls and provide responders with details about access, fire hydrants, nearby hazards and much more. Planners use GIS to help evaluate the impact of land use on the environment and surrounding infrastructure. Engineers use GIS to assess locations of future roads and other major projects.
Calvert County GIS is part of the Department of Technology Services and supports the GIS needs of all Departments within County Government. This support includes creating and/or maintaining a wide variety of geographic data layers including street centerlines, addresses, utility infrastructure, topography, facility and service locations, and more.
Aerial photography is also part of the GIS. This imagery is frequently used as a background or base map and over time provides snapshots of our changing county.
Calvert County GIS can also be a valuable tool for citizens. A variety of online, interactive maps will help you find local services or discover new recreation options. You can check to see if your property is impacted by the Chesapeake Bay Critical Area, something that’s good to know before you build or clear trees. Take a look at Calvert County over the past century by viewing historic aerial imagery. These and more online maps can help both residents and visitors learn about Calvert County and all it has to offer.
