Green Team Goals and Progress Reports
 

Expand energy audits to include other county buildings and pursue building upgrades that will save county money.
  The Department of General Services is monitoring the energy use of 10 county buildings and noting the impact of improvements to the buildings.
 
Institute a recycling plan for county government facilities.
  Recyclable materials are being collected from 12 county buildings and a plan has been submitted to the Board of County Commissioners for all county properties.
 
Require future county-owned buildings over 10,000 square feet to comply with LEED (silver) or Green Globe (2 globe) standards.
  This item is to be implemented as part of the Capital Improvement Program.
 
Collect employee ideas and present to the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC).
  The Green Team is monitoring an employee blog and is periodically presenting results to the Board of County Commissioners.
 
Build Internet site on the county Web for green issues.
  The Internet site is live.
 
Prepare town center ordinances that facilitate green site and building design.
  The new Solomons Ordinance draft has incentives for green site and building design. Subsequent ordinances will also be drafted to include green site and building design incentives.
 
Promote public green initiatives by supporting a citizens Green Team committee to hold a green expo.
  County staff is assisting the Citizen Green Team in preparing for the third annual Green Expo on Saturday, April 9, 2011, at the College of Southern Maryland Prince Frederick Campus.
 
Continue to pursue the National Association of Counties (NACO) Energy Star Challenge.
  A sub-committee has been formed. No action to date.
 
Keep the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) informed about national and state options and grant opportunities.
  This is an on-going effort.
