Environmental Commission
The Environmental Commission was established in 1975 by the Board of County Commissioners and tasked to provide
recommendations to the Department of Planning & Zoning, the Planning Commission, and the Board of County
Commissioners on matters that affect the environment (air, land, and water) in Calvert County.


The goals of the Environmental Commission are to promote recycling programs, alternative energy use, and energy
conservation; s
upport other County environmental organizations such as the Green Team, Southern Maryland Oyster Cultivation
Society (SMOCS
), Chesapeake Biological Lab in Solomons, Bernie Fowler's Patuxent River Wade-In, etc.; provide public education through outreach events like Patuxent River Appreciation Days (PRAD), the Green Expo, etc.; and address any environmental matters as tasked by the Board of County Commissioners, and advise them accordingly.

What's My Watershed & What's In It?  
The Environmental Commission encourages citizens to check out this new interactive watershed map.
Developed in collaboration with GIS experts in the County's Technology Services Department,
this map allows you to find and learn about the watershed in which you live
and any of the 22 watersheds that collectively drain Calvert County.
