Shoreline and Cliff Erosion
Overview and Background
If you are a resident located on the cliffs in Calvert County, you are undoubtedly aware of the current problem of shoreline and cliff erosion. Several local, state, and federal agencies have been working together to research short and long term solutions.

MDE 2008 Shore Erosion Control Guidelines, 2nd Edition

Calvert County has zoning regulations for shoreline and cliff areas on the Chesapeake Bay, Patuxent River and their tributaries located in Section 8-2.02 of the county Zoning Ordinance.

If you own property near a cliff area, and are proposing to disturb soil and/or vegetation within the cliff setback area, you need the following prior to issuance of a permit:

Calvert County Cliff Stabilization Advisory Committee (CSAC)
The Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) has organized a citizens committee, the Cliff Stabilization Advisory Committee, to keep the citizens informed and to research, analyze and recommend solutions to the BOCC. This page will be maintained with up to date information from the Committee.
