Opiate addiction in the United States is at an all-time high. Unfortunately, Calvert County is not immune from its devastating effects. The “Drug Problem” cannot be solved by law enforcement alone. There must be a multifaceted approach to include prevention, treatment, and the desire to quit by the addicted individual. 

Calvert County Overdose Information, January - August 9, 2016

As of August 9th, there have been 63 reported overdose cases. Of these, 47 were administered Narcan. Nine (9) people have died.  Of the nine (9) who died, five were administered Narcan.

Drug: 49 overdoses from heroin; 1 – heroin/Xanax; 1 – methadone/Percocet; 1 – crystal meth; 1 morphine/Percocet;
5 – unknown; 2 – Oxycodone; 1-Percocet; 1 – Methadone; 1-Flexeril

Location: 14 – Lusby; 14 – Chesapeake Beach; 7 – Prince Frederick; 6 – Huntingtown; 6 – St. Leonard; 4 – North Beach;
3 – Owings; 2 – Port Republic; 2 – Solomons; 2 – Dunkirk; 2 – Dowell; 1 – Broomes Island.

MD Heroin and Opioid Emergency Task Force

Governor Hogan established the Maryland Heroin and Opioid Emergency Task Force, which has recently released their Interim Report outlining steps that are being taken, and will be taken, to address the heroin/opioid abuse epidemic that has engulfed the state, including Calvert County. The Interim Report focuses on improved opioid abuse prevention education and resources available to individuals and families affected. You may read the report on the Task Force website.
