Department Overview

Providing dependable and secure computing systems and technological solutions to assist Calvert County Government departments accomplish their goals.

Mission and Goals

Accessibility
Provide citizens, the business community and county staff with reliable and convenient access to appropriate information and technology services. Construct and operate a reliable and cost-effective communications, network and computing infrastructure on which to conduct and provide county services to improve the integration and function of county applications.

Responsiveness
Deliver timely and effective responses to customer requests. Implement technology solutions which reduce time-to-answer customer questions and requests. Increase the ability to receive inquiries and information via web forms thereby improving each county department's ability to support our citizens, businesses and visitors.

Analysis and Consultation
Provide consulting assistance and services for improved office automation. Work with county agencies and relevant stakeholders to improve business practices and operations by understanding their needs. Coordinate the best-of-breed technology solutions by effectively planning, budgeting, implementing and managing throughout the life-cycle of these efforts. Provide vision and leadership for evaluating new technologies. 

Communication
Effectively communicate information about plans, projects and achievements to county staff, customers and the citizens we serve.

Staffing
Develop and retain a professional staff which remains competent in new technologies.


Department Objectives for FY17

  • Complete implementation of the County’s enterprise Asset Management System in the Division of Water and Sewerage.
  • Begin implementation of the County’s enterprise Asset Management System in the Division of Highway Maintenance. Work in this phase includes field verification and mapping of highway infrastructure and creating updated operational maps for field staff.
  • Begin the installation of Microsoft Enterprise Agreement (MSEA) or Office 365 Government Plan B and the County Wide installation of Office 2016.
  • Complete the phone upgrade of Office on Aging and Calvert Marine Museum by switching over to voice over internet protocol (VOIP) phones.
  • Complete the conversion of our training lab to a virtual environment improving efficiencies by reducing desktop computing costs and enabling streamlined and tailored training sessions.
  • Complete detailed plans for removing all of our old wireless equipment off of the current American Tower Company towers and installing new on the new Public Safety towers with the goal of minimum downtime.
