Committee Members
Committee Members
Volunteers are vital in providing therapeutic recreation services. If you are interested in volunteering with individuals who have differing abilities, we have the opportunity for you. Volunteers will gain rewarding experience through assisting recreation staff with a variety of programs.
Volunteer opportunities may include, but are not limited to inclusion companions, special events, instructing classes, and much more.
If you or an organization are interested, please register to volunteer and contact TRS.
AFTER-SCHOOL FUN: CALVERT COUNTRY SCHOOL
This is an after-school program is for kids with severe and profound disabilities, ages 10-21. Activities will focus on sports, fitness, and arts and crafts. Volunteers will be asked to assist with the activities and other duties as needed.
Program Information
- Dates: Each Wednesday, March 25 –May 26 for 7 weeks. WILL NOT meet on April 7, 14, & 28
- Times: 2:30pm – 5:00pm
- Instructor: Courtney Bryan
- Reg Deadline: March 22 (max of 5 volunteers)
- Responsibilities: To assist the group as needed.
BOWLING: LORD CALVERT BOWLING ALLEY
This program is for youth & teens ages 8 & up, who are interested in participating in a bowling program at Lord Calvert Bowl.
Program Information
- Dates: Each Saturday, May 1 – June 5. Program WILL NOT meet on May 29 due to Holiday Weekend
- Times: 2:45pm – 5:00pm
- Instructor: Courtney Bryan
- Reg Deadline: April 28 (need a min of 5 volunteers)
- Responsibilities: Will be assigned to a group who may need assistance with bowling, etc …
SOCIAL CLUB
This program is for youth and teens ages 8 to 16 who are on the Autism Spectrum. The social club will have themed weeks such as Ice Breaker Cream Party, Have a Ball and so forth. The activities will focus on having fun while learning social skills
Program Information
- Dates: Thursdays, April 1 – May 13. WILL NOT meet on April 15.
- Times: 6:00pm – 7:30pm
- Instructor: Courtney Bryan
- Reg Deadline: April 1
- Responsibilities: Assist coordinator with implementing games and activities
SATURDAY PROGRAM AT CHESAPEAKE BEACH WATER PARK
This program is for youth and teens ages 8 to 21 who want to enjoy a day at the water park J
Program Information
- Dates: Saturday, June 12
- Times: 1:00pm – 5:00pm
- Location: Meet at Northeast Community Center at 12:45pm and then we will all walk over to water park as a group with the participants
- Instructor: Penny Scott
- Reg Deadline: June 8
- Responsibilities: To assist group as needed in and out of the water
TENNIS CLINIC
Two clinics will be provided on this day. No experience is needed, as instructors will assist volunteers with duties.
Program Information
- Date: Saturday, April 24
- Times: Session I 10:30am – 12:00pm Physical Disabilities
Session II 1:00pm – 2:30pm Developmental Disabilities
- Location: Meet at Calvert High School tennis courts
- Instructor: Pete Siegert
- Reg Deadline: Saturday, April 20 (max of 5 volunteers)
- Responsibilities: To assist the instructor as needed. No experience required.
NOTE: This is an inclusive activity, and you may or may not interact with kids who have disabilities.
GOLF CLINIC & KAYAKING CLINICS
Golf Clinics: Several Golf clinics will be taking place in the April and May at Mellomar Golf Park (Lower Marlboro Road).
Kayaking Clinics: Three clinics will take place in May and June at King’s Landing Park. If you are interested in volunteering please contact Penny Scott. Volunteer slots are based on the number of participants registered for the program.
