Animal Control
Calvert County Animal Control provides assistance to citizens with domestic animals. Animal Control can be reached through the Sheriff's Office at 410-535-2800 or 301-855-1194.
The Calvert County Animal Ordinance addresses all regulations set forth in regard to animals. A copy may be obtained from Animal Control and can be found on the county’s web site – click here.
Calvert County has a leash law for dogs, meaning if a dog is off the owner's property it must be on a leash. There is also a control law for cats, meaning if a cat is off the owner's property it must be under a person's control.
All dogs and cats must possess an animal license and licenses must be purchased annually. Licenses are sold at Calvert Animal Hospital, Chesapeake Animal Hospital, Prince Frederick Animal Hospital, Calvert County Courthouse, Solomons Veterinary Clinic, and Tri County Animal Shelter.
All animals must possess a current rabies inoculation. Whether owned or stray, any animal that breaks the skin of a person or other animal must be reported to Animal Control and be quarantined for 10 days, regardless of rabies inoculation.
A lost and found report is kept by the Tri County Animal Shelter. You may contact the shelter at 1-800-903-1992. Shelter hours are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The shelter is closed all Charles County holidays.
