 Dr. Brownlee Receives DNR Award

Dr. Dave Brownlee receives award from Maryland Department of the Environment Secretary Shari Wilson.

Dr. Dave Brownlee, Senior Environmental Planner with the Calvert County Department of Planning & Zoning, received The Maryland Tributary Teams Annual Watershed Hero Award for his participation with the Patuxent River Commission. The annual award was established in the early years of the 15 year old Tributary Team program -- as a way to recognize the unsung heroes throughout Maryland’s watersheds to the Bay -- who work consistently on issues, outreach, education, and environmental policy - all aimed to protect and restore the tributaries and the Chesapeake Bay

For over 20 years Dr. Brownlee has represented Calvert County government as its senior environmental planner. Through his leadership, direction and vision he has been successful in obtaining and managing major federal and state grants for the county, including National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, FEMA & MEMA, 319, and Bay Trust grants that help to protect and properly manage our natural resources. One significant grant, the Bay Restoration Fund, through the Maryland Department of the Environment, has provided Calvert County Government the ability to provide residents with much needed funds to upgrade their on-site septic systems and make Calvert County's septic upgrade program the strongest and most successful in the state.

The 14th Annual Meeting of Maryland's Tributary Teams was held Saturday March 6th at the Maryland Department of the Environment in Baltimore. The event was attended by almost 200 local government personnel, environmental advocates and citizens from academia to agriculture.
