Grays Creek Subwatershed Plan
Public Meeting Held August 26, 2010
|
Calvert County has a long history of wisely managing its environmental resources. As part of the County’s Comprehensive Plan, County government staff is working to prepare subwatershed plans in order to achieve/maintain Calvert County water quality objectives which include “fishable/swimmable” goals for all its waterways.
The Department of Planning & Zoning held a meeting on the Grays Creek subwatershed on Thursday, August 26, 7-9 p.m. at the Southern Community Center in Lusby. Click here to view the slideshow presented. Stakeholders had an opportunity to discuss the effects of living near Grays Creek, which is located within Calvert Cliffs State Park near Cove Point. Staff reviewed the current health of Grays Creek as determined by the county’s grant-funded water testing process. Residents also learned about water and land usage patterns that impact the sedimentation of waterways and nutrient loading from stormwater runoff. Addressing these issues will ultimately help improve water quality in the Patuxent River and the Chesapeake Bay.

The Grays Creek subwatershed boundary (see map) stretches along the eastern coast of the county from Camp Conoy Road on the grounds of Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant south to Drum Point. There are 22 subwatersheds in Calvert County, and public meetings have already been held on the Hall Creek and Parkers Creek plans.
