Substance abuse impacts a community's safety and well-being when people drive while under the influence and by increased crime associated with illegal drug activity.
Objectives:
The following objectives are aimed at promoting public safety in the community.
- Increased manpower.
- Equipment.
- Better communication between agencies.
- Institute Neighborhood Watch programs.
- Increase jail capacity.
- Use of alternative sentences.
- Maximum use of the forfeiture statutes.
- Seek tougher sentences.
- Mandatory urinalysis program.
- Streamline the system.
- Closer supervision of probationers.
- Gain a greater understanding of the magnitude of the problems in the schools.
- Enlist and encourage participation of students in war on drugs.
- Closer regulation of bars and liquor stores.
- Increase merchant responsibility.
- More police involvement.
- More involvement by other court agencies.

Activities:
- Camp C.O.P.S. - Contact the Maryland State Police, Barrack "U", for more information - 410-535-1400.
- D.A.R.E. Program - Provided in Middle Schools only.
- National Night Out Program - Register for National Night Out 2011, which takes place on Tuesday, August 2nd.
- Neighborhood Watch Program - The Calvert County Neighborhood Watch Program meets at 6:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Express - Prince Frederick, Maryland on the following second Monday of every other month: January, March, May, July , September and November.
