Substance abuse impacts a community's safety and well-being when people drive while under the influence and by increased crime associated with illegal drug activity.

Objectives:

The following objectives are aimed at promoting public safety in the community.

1. Increased manpower.
2. Equipment.
3. Better communication between agencies.
4. Institute Neighborhood Watch programs.
5. Increase jail capacity.
6. Use of alternative sentences.
7. Maximum use of the forfeiture statutes.
8. Seek tougher sentences.
9. Mandatory urinalysis program.
10. Streamline the system.
11. Closer supervision of probationers.
12. Gain a greater understanding of the magnitude of the problems in the schools.
13. Enlist and encourage participation of students in war on drugs.
14. Closer regulation of bars and liquor stores.
15. Increase merchant responsibility.
16. More police involvement.
17. More involvement by other court agencies.

• National Night Out Program - Register for National Night Out 2011, which takes place on Tuesday, August 2nd.
• Neighborhood Watch Program - The Calvert County Neighborhood Watch Program meets at 6:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Express - Prince Frederick, Maryland on the following second Monday of every other month: January, March, May, July , September and November.
