Tools for Development of Affordable Housing
The County Commissioners have approved a number of Planning and Zoning initiatives aimed at providing additional options for affordable housing within the County. Among the most noteworthy are the promotion of apartments attached to businesses; the approval of a pilot project for the establishment of duplexes, triplexes or quadplexes as pilot projects within each of the three election districts of the County; and potential waiver of transferable development rights (TDR's) for qualifying affordable developments in town centers and lands in the Residential Districts within a mile of a town center. More information on these initiatives may be found by clicking the 2006 Zoning Ordinance on the link below and reviewing Article 3-1.03 “Residential Uses & Definitions;” more specifically, the following items:
#3. Apartments, Attached to a Business
#8. Dwelling, Attached: Duplex
#9. Dwelling, Attached: Fourplex
#10. Dwelling, Attached: Triplex
