Public Safety Mission
The Department of Public Safety is dedicated to the efficient management of daily calls requiring emergency responders; the proactive mitigation of manmade, technological and/or natural disasters; the effective response to fire, rescue and emergency medical service needs within the County; and the assertive reduction of the number of false alarm dispatches.
The Department of Public Safety also serves as the County's representative for Homeland Security issues and our Hazardous Materials Response Team; and assist the Calvert County Sheriff's Office and the Maryland State Police in their efforts to protect and serve the citizens of Calvert County.
Public Safety, which includes the Control Center - 911, Emergency Management, Fire, Rescue and EMS Division, False Alarm Reduction Unit, and Hazardous Materials Response Team, is Calvert County's guide center for emergency references, resources, and assistance. The Department of Public Safety serves as the liaison between county, state and federal Homeland Security teams. We work in conjunction with the Calvert County Sheriff's Office, Maryland State Police, and Natural Resources Police in the enforcement of federal, state and local laws.
