Internship Program
Internship Program
The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office has an ongoing Internship Program available to high school students who are in a criminal justice program or college/university students earning a criminal justice degree and receiving credits for the hours they intern with our agency.
Listed are typical college/university program requirements:
- A required number of working hours per credit earned
- An outline of the tasks you will be assigned during your internship
- Quarterly evaluations
- Final project
You may first want to contact your college/university to see if they offer this type of internship course; and if so, what are their specific program requirements.
You must then complete an internship application. Once we receive your completed internship application, we will ensure that you meet our program requirements, and we will conduct a required criminal background check. When the criminal background check has been completed, our Internship Coordinator will contact you via email or phone regarding your acceptance.
If you submit an internship application and do not meet our agency’s internship qualifications, you will not be considered for an internship position.
Volunteers
If you do not meet the internship requirements, you may qualify to become a Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Volunteer. Volunteers are contacted when a unit/bureau requires the assistance of a volunteer with a special project, etc.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, you will need to complete and submit the volunteer application.
Obtaining an Application
Internship and Volunteer applications can be obtained by contacting the Internship Coordinator by email at lopezfa@co.cal.md.us or by telephone at 410-535-1600 X2466. Contact by email is preferable so that the application can be sent electronically.
All applicants under the age of 18 MUST obtain parental consent before submitting their application. If parental information is not included, the applicant will not be considered. If an applicant is selected as a Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Intern or Volunteer, an interview will be scheduled and the parent who gave consent will be required to accompany the applicant.
If you have any further questions about either program, please contact Ms. Frances Lopez.
