Patrol
The Patrol Bureau is the most visible of all the bureaus within the Sheriff’s Office. The personnel assigned to the Patrol Bureau, with the utilization of a fleet of marked police vehicles, routinely provide the first response to calls for police service in the community.
The Patrol Bureau maintains a strong patrol presence 24 hours a day, seven days a week, throughout Calvert County’s 219 square miles. These deputies use a proactive, community-policing approach to identify and solve problems at low levels of disagreement and to identify conditions that could lead to crime. They work in partnership with the other bureaus within the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office. They make sure the Sheriff’s Office uses an appropriate array of agency resources to combat crime.
This Bureau includes the K-9 Unit, Community Action Team (CAT), and the Twin Beaches Patrol
K-9 Unit
The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit has K-9 teams trained in patrol, narcotics detection, explosive detection and tracking. These K-9 teams fall under the Patrol Bureau. The K-9 unit supports all Bureaus within the Sheriff’s Office as well as outside agencies when requested. The goal of the K-9 unit is to detect, locate and indicate lost persons, suspects, evidence and contraband while increasing officer safety. The K-9 unit conducts many demonstrations throughout the year. The largest of these demonstrations is done annually at the Calvert County Fair.
Community Action Team (CAT)
The Community Action Team (C.A.T.) is comprised of deputies who have the following duties and responsibilities:
-
- Selective traffic enforcement activities;
- Community patrols and selective enforcement activities;
- Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) Program
- Crime prevention activities
- Recruitment activities
Twin Beaches Patrol
Through an agreement with towns of Chesapeake Beach and North Beach, the Calvert County Sheriff's Office has nine deputies assigned to patrol these towns 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
